User needs in EUROSCOPE

Users in EUROSCOPE are seen as belonging to one of 3 levels:

  • authorities/infrastructure owners
  • service providers
  • end-users

Authorities/infrastructure owners

Local and regional authorities, central government departments, port authorities, Public Transport operators.

Service providers

Local and regional authorities, Public Transport operators, port authorities, radio stations, DAKOSY provider (port of Hamburg).

End-users

Motorists and non-motorist travellers, truckers, freight companies, quay operators, trucking companies, traffic departments, control centres, police, other service providers, radio stations.

In most cases the needs of these users relate to services already provided to a greater or lesser degree.

Infrastructure owners/authorities - service providers

These are basically related to the policy objectives:

  • need to increase network efficiency,
  • improvement of services provided (especially for PT operators), knowledge of traffic and travel conditions,
  • ability to communicate with travellers,
  • improvement in the efficiency of port and freight installations.

End users

  • Information on traffic and parking conditions: accurate, timely, reliable
  • Route recommendations
  • Multimodal information
  • Increased comfort, reduced cost for travellers
  • Tools for improved traffic and network management
  • Links with other operators/managers

A EUROSCOPE deliverable on the user needs analysis is available. The project also held a successful conference on user needs, in Strasbourg, in December 96. This gave the opportunity to present details from the work in the individual sites, and to exchange views and experience with other projects of the transport sector of the TAP. The proceedings of the conference form a EUROSCOPE deliverable which is also available. For information on these, the contact point is the project co-ordinator.
